Bogotá celebrates Pride (Orgullo Gay) with a weekend of parties, political rallies, cultural events and a huge pride parade attracting over 70,000 participants. Over the past decade, Colombia has become one of the most famous escapes for gay tourists, and the country legalised gay marriage in 2016.
- Visiting Bogota for pride? Stay in the Chapinero district, home to more than 100 different gay and gay-friendly bars, restaurants and clubs.
The Pride Parade
- Next Edition: Awaiting dates – Typically the last Sunday in June.
- The main parade is held on Sunday, gathering at 10 am, starting from the Bogotá City Council Square to the Simón Bolívar Metropolitan Park (Plazoleta de Eventos), all along Avenida El Dorado Calle 26, the main road in the city.
- The parade is a colourful affair and includes floats and street performances with dancing, singing and cheering as marchers pass by some of the city’s most important monuments and buildings. The first gay pride march in Bogotá was held in 1982.
- Hundreds of thousands of people are expected, including participants and attendees, positioning as the largest LGBT+ event in Colombia and among the first ones in the world.
- Note – the event is held over the St Peter & St Paul Bank Holiday Weekend. (Monday July 1st is a national holiday).
The Pride & Diversity Festival
- Sunday, Awaiting dates –As the parade comes to an end, the party continues in Plaza de Bolívar with several live shows, performances, drag queens and DJs celebrating late into the night. Soak up the ambience and surround yourself with the city’s most flamboyant people. The parties continue in the Chapinero district, home to Bogotá’s gay bars and clubs.
Bogota Pride Fest
- Awaiting dates – Saturday to Tuesday – El Mozo, one of the leading party promoters in Colombia presents Bogota Pride Fest, a weekend of circuit parties in some of the most spectacular venues across the city.
- The event also includes Bogota Pride Fest, a massive day and night event in the open air.
Gay Bogotá
- Bogota is Colombia’s sprawling, high-altitude capital, home to more than 7.2 million people. The gay scene is vibrant and varied, with a bar for all tastes.
- Chapinero is home to Bogotá’s gay neighbourhood, a well to do district 30 minutes to one hour drive from the downtown district of Candelaria. Yes, traffic can be quite an issue in the city, so plan accordingly. We suggest you stay in the gay district and use it as your base to explore the rest of the city.
- Bogota’s gay bars are spread out along Carrera 9 street between Calles 58 to 60 in the Chapinero district, a 30 minute ride away. The busiest include:
Cafe Bars
- Village Cafe – Quirky and different, Village Cafe is a great place to begin your afternoon with a coffee or a light bite to eat.
- Estacion Cafe – Delicious cocktails and a varied dinner menu with a range of dishes.
- El Recreo de Adan – One of the city’s coolest gay bars and home to sexy waiters and a relaxed vibe. Note, there are two bars, one in Zona Rosa and one in Chapinero.
- Leos Bar Mistica – Fun atmosphere complete with Rumba shows, a bear night and karaoke.
Clubs
- Theatron de Película – Epic nightclub split into 12 mini clubs spread over five floors. Each club is devoted to a musical theme, from the 80s to Salsa.
- Punto 59 – A Colombian institution with a popular dance floor and fun vibe. Dance the night away over the weekend with hunky guys on the dancefloor.
- El Mozo – The city’s most stylish club with a beautiful terrace bar opens in the early afternoon. Hosts famous circuit DJs, Drag Queens and theme nights.
Saunas
- Baño Turco Saint Moritz – Longest running sauna in the city, recently renovated with shows, massages and cruising. Very bear-friendly.
- Complices Spa – Entertainment complex with Roman pool, Turkish baths, jacuzzi and private relaxation rooms. Popular with younger guys.
